Over the past few months, Hannibal Buress has turned into one of the hottest comedians in show business, particularly after one of his stand-up routines, where he talked about the many accusations revolving Bill Cosby, became viral and exploded into a new wave of controversy - so it might not be all that surprising to hear he tried to be the new "Daily Show" host.
After Jon Stewart announced he would no longer be the "Daily Show" host after nearly 20 years on the job, there was a lot of speculation over who would be replacing him before Trevor Noah was announced, and it's a fact that the likes of Amy Schumer and Chris Rock were offered the position - but was Buress?
It seems not!
According to AV Club, Buress recently released a "secret audition tape" to become the new "Daily Show" host when Comedy Central was looking for someone to replace Stewart, but in fact the video is a fake.
Salon describes the fake "Daily Show" host audition tape as a "glorious trainwreck," as the "Broad City" comedian asking the producers and those behind the camera why Stewart had gotten fired, and whether he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't have (though his language was far more colorful), saying that there was "no way" they were giving the show to a black man.
On the clip, Buress shows he would have been all kinds of wrong for the job, as well as giving a glimpse on his kind of edgy comedy, after bits of his roast to Justin Bieber were cut out of the final transmission.
According to The Wrap, the fake "Daily Show" host audition tape is part of a promotional campaign that Comedy Central is pulling for Buress' upcoming sketch show, "Why?" and it's a brilliant move, as the iconic Stewart-led show is about to go through a major change.
