Though it is widely known that there was a project in the 1990s that saw Tim Burton follow up his Batman movies with the most famous superhero from Krypton with Nicolas Cage as Superman, footage of how the Oscar winner would have looked like in the role is scarce - but now there's actually more going on!
The latest clip of Nicolas Cage's Superman tests comes from the upcoming documentary "The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?" which was helmed by Jon Schnepp and tells the story of how the 1997 project fell through as the DC Comics franchise flopped after the George Clooney and Alicia Silverstone-led "Batman & Robin."

According to The Daily Mail, the newest footage of Nicolas Cage as Superman sees the now 51 year-old actor fitting in a suit of the iconic superhero that's never been seen before, in steel blue, created by Colleen Atwood, the Oscar winning costume designer of films like "Chicago" and Burton's "Big Fish."
The recently uncovered footage of Nicolas Cage as Superman went viral after the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex posted it online, unearthing it for the first time after almost 20 years - and two actors playing the DC superhero on the big screen since, Brandon Routh in the ill-fated "Superman Returns" and Henry Cavill in "Man of Steel" and the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
In this new footage of Nicolas Cage as Superman, the actor is shown modeling the costume for the director.
Both Cage and Burton were interviewed for the documentary about the never-shot film, but Entertainment Weekly reports they weren't the only major players that were approached for the film, as even screenwriter and director Kevin Smith, an avid comic book fan who even named his daughter after Batman villain Harley Quinn.
Cage himself is a major fan of Superman, having named his own son Kal-El after the superhero's Kryptonian name.
