Demi Lovato, who has recently been accused of copying Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" and Jessi J's "Domino," fires back at critics and denies that her newly launched single "Cool for the Summer" is also a rip-off.
On Wednesday, July 1, the Disney Channel star stood up for herself via Twitter in response to the allegations claiming that her new single is a rip-off to Perry and Jessie's tracks.
"Sounds nothing like it with all the advances we've made in the LGBT community I think more than one female artist can kiss a girl and like it," Lovato wrote.
The 23-year old 'Skyscraper' singer responds to what she believes are false claims. After Lovato debuted her new single on July 1, people apparently noticed that "Cool for the Summer" sounds similar to Perry's hit song "I Kissed a Girl", of which both tracks feature lyrics that talks about 'same-sex' kissing.
One day before its official release, the new song rolled out on social media and several fans reacted, saying that the chorus of the song is also too similar to the chorus of Jessie J's hit song "Domino".
Despite the accusations, Lovato's "Cool for the Summer" has still managed to reign at no.1 in Billboard's #Trending140, iTunes and Apple Music.
Lovato also hinted about her upcoming album, saying that it will contain more songs like the controversial single.
"There's definitely a lot of provocative songs on the album," she said. "There's also an elemental that I really wanted to bring to the music. One was the rock element. I wanted to bring back that kind of rock-pop music, but I have a lot of rhythmic flares in there as well."
"Cool for the Summer" will be the lead single of Lovato's new album, which is expected to be released anytime soon. On Wednesday, the singer announced that her next album will be a lot different than her 2013's "Demi."
"I'm no longer serious. I'm done with like the sob stories and the tales. New chapter, new life, new album, new single. This is a completely new Demi.", she said.
Lovato with her sexy black bra top, high-waist shorts and thigh gladiator boots, rocked the party as she performed "Cool for the Summer" at Z100's held at the Gansevoort Park Avenue in New York.
