[WATCH] Avril Lavigne Opens Up About Her Battle With Lyme Disease [PHOTOS]

Avril Lavigne broke down in tears when she shared a health update with Good Morning America, she talked about her illness for the first time on-camera.

The 30-year-old singer shared her struggles and revealed how she considers her new opportunity as the chance to start over.

It's been a long road to recovery for Avril following her Lyme disease diagnosis in 2013, and the pop star still gets emotional while talking about her ongoing battle with the illness.

"This is my second shot at life. I really just want to go out there and truly do what I love," she said with tears streaming down her face as she spoke with ABC's Jesse Palmer. "So I'm so excited for life after this."

Avril is still going through treatment and expects to make a full recovery. "I'm about halfway through my treatment. I'm doing a lot better," Avril revealed. "Seeing a lot of progress, I'm just really grateful to know that I will make 100 percent recovery."

The 'Complicated' singer recognized she had Lyme disease in December 2012 and then publicly revealed the news of her ailment in April.

Avril also shared her frustrating medical appointments and broke down in tears while recalling doctors' misdiagnoses.

"I was seeing every specialist, and literally like the top doctors ... It was so stupid," she said.

"They would pull up their computer and be like, 'Chronic fatigue syndrome' or 'Why don't you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?' or 'Are you depressed?'"

It took two months, according to the Canadian singer, for doctors to find out exactly what was wrong with her.

"I saw my doctor right away, got blood tests, got swabbed, and they didn't really know what was wrong with me," she continued. "I started going to other doctors and specifically telling them and asking, 'I have Lyme disease. I know I do. Can you check me?' Then I finally figured out, 'Find a Lyme specialist.'"

Lyme disease is the debilitating bacterial infection that comes from a tick bite.

Avril believes she was bit in spring 2014, when she became bedridden for five months in her native Ontario home.
