New York Prison Escaped Convict - Shot and Captured Alive

The escaped murderer, David Sweat is one of two New York State inmates who escaped from prison, Sweat has been shot and apprehended after a massive, more-than-three-week manhunt by the authorities.

Jay Cook a New York State Police sergean said that after he spotted David Sweat near the Canadian border, Sweat ran and the sergeant chased the escaped convict this happened two days after Sweat's accomplice was killed.

New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D'Amico, stated, "At some point, running across a field, he realized that Sweat was going to make it to a tree line, and possibly could have disappeared, and he fired two shots."

The authorities said, when the 35 years old David Sweat was taken into custody in the town of Constable, he was shot twice 23 miles north of Duane. But the escape convict was captured just a mile and a half south of New York's border with the Canadian province of Quebec.

In a news conference, New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo, stated: "The nightmare is finally over," the Governor added: "If you were writing a movie plot, they would say it was overdone."

Governor Andrew Cuomo personally congratulated officer Jay Cook. The governor said, "It was a very courageous act. I said to Sgt. Cook, who has two daughters, 16 and 17, 'You go home tonight and tell your daughters you're a hero.'"

After David Sweat was captured, CNN showed a photograph of a pale, gaunt-looking convict seated on the ground in a dark jacket and muddy camouflage clothing. The face of Sweat appeared to have blood that has dried out.

Superintendent of the New York State police, Joseph D'Amico, also in the same news conference, stated, that the escaped convict has not been interviewed yet by investigators after he was captured.

Jessica Randall, who was shopping with her husband when she saw a convoy of police vehicles speed by, said, "I think a lot of people are going to rest easier tonight."
