Walt Disney World Has Officially Banned Selfie Sticks For Public Safety

Starting on Tuesday, under a new policy, selfie sticks will no longer be allowed inside the Walt Disney World. Citing public safety concerns, the metal rod that many tourists use to take wider pictures has been banned from Disney's theme parks across the world.

A spokesperson said on Friday, "We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast."

The new policy will take effect on Tuesday at Disney theme parks in the US , Disneyland Paris, while Hong Kong Disneyland will take effect on July 1.

Starting June 30, all of tourists would have to go through the bag check routine before entering the land of Mickey Mouse. Guests have only two options; turn their selfie- sticks for a later pick up after visiting the park or return the metal rod to their cars or hotel rooms.

As part of the regulation, if a guest refuses to surrender their selfie-sticks workers will alert the manager or security team.

The theme park prohibited using selfie-sticks in some of their rides, as it caused issues to the ride's safety measures. Management had to come up with a solution for the safety of the guests.

Last week, a roller coaster passenger at the Disney California Adventure Park, pulled out a selfie stick in the middle of the ride, the coaster was halted for an hour, according to officials.

If one is planning to visit Walt Disney World expect picutres to be taken the old fashione way. The use of a metal rod that can extend up to 40 inches to help capture a wider angle of a selfie would have to be done outside Disney's premises.
