Chevy’s New Electric Car An All-Electric Bolt EV with 200 Mile Range

The company confirmed on Thursday, Chevy's upcoming Bolt EV will start at about $30,000. The new electric car is set to hit the road sometime in 2016.

The car maker stated, it's not just the low price of the Bolt EV that motorists should come after, the game-changer for electric vehicles is that drivers will be able to travel more than 200 miles per charge. That's a huge difference for a car that will cost far less than the Tesla Model S that can get between 208 and 270 miles on a charge.

The Bolt EV is different from Chevy's Volt, besides the design, the Bolt EV is purely an electric vehicle while the Chevy's Volt has a gas powered generator which charge its battery pack on the go.

The Chevrolet Automobile Company said, before the Bolt EV begins rolling the assembly line, the company will already be testing a host of Bolt EVs around the country to ensure that it performs well.

The Bolt EV's chief engineer Josh Tavel stated, "there are some 55 preproduction, camouflaged Bolts driving around right now, going through the sorts of testing pre-production cars receive -- tuning the suspension and minimizing unwanted sounds, that sort of thing. The sound factor is doubly important in an EV, because without an internal combustion engine to generate white noise, the driver can hear everything else much more clearly."

Chevy's new electric car priced around $30,000 US (after the $7,500 tax credit) makes it far, far more affordable. The electric car also supports fast-DC charging, that can fill the batteries up to 80 percent capacity in less than 30 minutes.

The Chevrolet Automobile Company will release the Bolt EV in all 50 states in the U.S. and selected markets internationally.
