Alicia Vikander ‘Jason Bourne’: Matt Damon Joined By ‘Ex Machina’ Star, No Time For Michael Fassbender’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’

Matt Damon has officially found a leading lady for his next venture as the iconic superspy, as hot newcomer Alicia Vikander's "Jason Bourne" role is confirmed, prompting the Swedish star to turn down two projects she was attached to, namely "Assassin's Creed" starring Vikander's boyfriend Michael Fassbender and "The Circle" starring Tom Hanks.

According to Deadline, although it had been previously reported that the Gothenburg-born actress was in talks for the spy sequel, it wasn't until this week that Alicia Vikander's "Jason Bourne" role was confirmed, as the actress has turned into one of the hottest in Hollywood following the science fiction film "Ex Machina" earlier this year.

Practically at the same time as Alicia Vikander's "Jason Bourne" role was confirmed, "Harry Potter" actress Emma Watson was hired to star in "The Circle," and there's still no official announcement about who will be the female co-lead in "Assassin's Creed."

The Daily Mail reports that Alicia Vikander's "Jason Bourne" appearance will see her co-starring not only with Oscar-winning Damon, but also with Julia Stiles, set to make a return to the franchise; the new film will not co-star Marvel Avenger Jeremy Renner, who starred in the previous Bourne film in a new role, though the character will get its own sequel.

According to Entertainment Weekly, other people involved in the Alicia Vikander's "Jason Bourne" movie will be Paul Greengrass, the director of the first three movies, who will also co-write the film alongside Christopher Rouse.

While there's still no release date for "Bourne 5," nor even an official name, Damon has already said the people involved in the production were aiming for a 2016 release, which looks far more likely as things move forward in the casting decisions.

Besides Alicia Vikander's "Jason Bourne" appearance, the 26 year-old star will be appearing in three more films this year on her quick rise to superstardom, including Guy Ritchie's "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."
