Over 1 Million Minecraft Blocks Built an Insane Pixel Art

Thorlar Thorlarian a self proclaimed Pixel Art King, used 1,128,960 Minecraft blocks in recreating the official wallpaper from the 2010 BlizzCon fan event featuring villains Deathwing, Kerrigan and Diablo.T

Thorlar made the entire art all by himself, without collaborating with other artists or used any external software like the SpriteCraft software, which converts images into their corresponding Minecraft blocks.

Thorlar Thorlarian told the PC Gamer, "Pixel art, when it comes down to it, is just like drawing with pen and paper. So with enough practice, it's easy to know what blocks have what color, such as black being best represented by by black wool, coal blocks, etc. At that point, no matter the size of your project, all you need to do is know what block would be most suitable for what area," Thorlarian added, "It took over 1000 hours, so it's not something you just plan to do overnight or in a week."

The insane art work of Thorlar wasn't just for the sake of art, it was also intended for charity. He used Twitch to live-stream his work and in the process, Thorlarian earned $3,500 for the Make-A-Wish foundation. The artist has raised over $11,000 since he joined Twitch in 2014.

The thousands of Twitch witnesses confirmed the legitimacy of Thorlarian's accomplishment. His work represents an actual world record as the biggest Minecraft pixel art ever made.

Thorlar Thorlarian stated in a Q and A on Reddit's Minecraft forum, "If I see black, I'd go for something like coalblocks or black wool, if it shades over to another colour possibly utilising obsidian and similar blocks in similar situations. Just going with the colours and what blocks match up the best."
