James Cameron Remembers Deceased Friend James Horner

James Cameron, who is an old friend and a partner-in-film of the deceased movie composer James Horner, is looking back at their work and achievements together in an interview with PEOPLE magazine.

The Oscar-winning director said, "It's sad and shocking, and it's such a waste in a way. We were looking forward to our next gig together."

Before Horner's death, the film composer had already collaborated with Cameron for the three upcoming Avatar movies, of which Avatar 2 is enlisted as his final credit.

The duo, who both achieved an Academy Award for their work on the classic hit movie "Titanic," first met up and worked together back in the 1980 small sci-fi film, "The Battle Beyond the Stars."

The Titanic director wrote an essay which narrated his amazing relationship with Horner.

"He wrote music from the heart, and he had a big beautiful heart," Cameron said.

"I will miss his humor and intelligence, his genuine warmth as a human being. And I will miss the music that never gets written now, the scores I longed to hear," he wrote.

The 61-year old film maker also admitted that he will miss their give-and-take style as artists working together. He said "as two opinionated guys who always managed to get the best out of each other and remain best of friends afterward."

In a report by Hollywood reporter, Cameron detailed how he spent his last memory with Horner. "[Producer] John Landau and I went to London just for the concert, and we had a kind of reunion. It was emotional and I'm glad that was my last personal memory of James."

He added, "They had to subtitle the film because when the orchestra was playing, you couldn't hear the words. I thought, "This is how James would have imagined it."

James Horner died from a plane crash in Southern California on Monday, June 22. The two-time Oscar winner was later identified by one of his employees and was confirmed dead.

Sylvia Patrycja, Horner's assistant, broke out the news on her Facebook page, confirming that it was the beloved composer who died in the tragic incident.

"We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent.", she wrote. "He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road."

Cameron on bidding farewell to his good friend, ended his statement with a simple yet meaningful message, "Thank you, James. Fly brother."
