The film adaptation of 'Gone Girl' was a huge success that had audiences clamoring for more Gillian Flynn books to be made into movies. Fans may finally be getting what they want with the new movie 'Dark Places,' with an added bonus: it features an Oscar winner.
'Dark Places' features Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and her 'Mad Max: Fury Road' co-star Nicholas Hoult. Theron stars as Libby, a young woman who is still traumatized by the murder of her mother and two sisters when she was only seven years old. The child had accused her brother Ben (Corey Stoll) of the crime, landing him in jail for almost 28 years. But did Ben really do it?
A24 has just released the first official trailer for 'Dark Places,' which also features 'X-Men: Apocalypse' star Tye Sheridan as the younger version of Stoll's character.
An excerpt of the synopsis reads:
"When Libby accepts a fee to appear at a gathering of true-crime aficionados led by Lyle Wirth (Hoult), she is shocked to learn most of them believe Ben is innocent and the real killer is still at large. In need of money, she reluctantly agrees to help them reexamine the crime by revisiting the worst moments of her life."
'Dark Places' is based on Flynn's 2009 novel that focuses on the Satanic cult hysteria that swept through the country during the 1980s. The book stayed two consecutive weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List for dark fiction and later won the Black Quill Award for Dark Genre Novel of the Year from Dark Scribe magazine.
The film is directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, who also wrote the screenplay based on the book. The cast also includes a surprisingly grown-up Chloe Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, Andrea Roth, Drea de Matteo and Sean Bridgers.
'Dark Places' will be released on August 7, 2015.
