Urban Outfitters is typically known for their huge storefronts in New York City, as well as being the go-to shop for hipsters and wannabes when it's Coachella season.
But now, the clothing brand is continuing its efforts to break into the food service industry as it works on opening two restaurants and a bar in Austin, Texas.
While the restaurants and bar still don't have a name, a location has already been chosen. The establishments will be on "the Drag" - the nickname for Guadalupe Street - which runs in close proximity to the Austin campus of the University of Texas.
Urban Outfitters had already bought the leases for five retail spaces on the same street in January. The brand also intends to launch a huge Urban Outfitters "mega-center" with the bar and two restaurants before September ends, as reported by The Austin Chronicle.
Many students and residents in the area seem to be happily embracing the changes between 24th and 25th streets. Although, some are still sad to see some old favorites go into inexistence.
Clothing store Manju's called the Drag its home for 37 years, and two other local shops - Pipes Plus and Archer Hookah Lounge - will be closing up to make way for the new Urban Outfitters. Although, Pipes Plus will be moving to a new location just around the corner.
"I absolutely loved to shop in Manju's and it truly broke my heart when they shut down,. The owner was an absolute angel and I cannot even imagine how hard it must have been for her to have been forced to leave," said Whitney Senn, a University of Texas student.
This isn't Urban Outfitters' first venture in the food industry. While many people may or may not know, The Gorbals restaurant was actually the brand's first attempt to foray in the industry sector.
The first restaurant is popularly known for its menu item: a whole pig's head. Found in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the restaurant is located within the walls of a three-store Urban Outfitters.
These two new restaurants and bar seems as though the brand is making it known that they intend to stay in both the fashion and food industries - and they're not ones to mess with.
The new milestone looks like it will be even bigger than anyone would expect.
