Director Matthew Vaughn has confirmed his plans to return to the series of his 2010 comic book adaptation of Kick-Ass, and the series will come back with not one, but two films: Kick-Ass 3 and Hit-Girl prequel.
As director Vaughn spoke to Yahoo Movies about the home entertainment release of 'Kingsman: The Secret Service, Vaughn stated that he's not happily done with the franchise, and he wants to focus on re-booting the cult hit.
From a $30 million budget that then earned just $96.1 million worldwide, Kick-Ass did not make such a ginificant hit in the box office. The sequel Kick-Ass 2 in 2013 gained $60.7 million worldwide with a production budget of $28 million.
Mark Millar in a separate interview, said that he and Matthew Vaughn only had informal chats about the Hit-Girl prequel and Kick-Ass 3.
In a Q&A session with Yahoo! UK - director Vaughn stated: "We would like to dip our toe back into it, Mark (Millar) and I and the team. We're working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit-Girl and Big Daddy become Hit-Girl and Big Daddy. It's quite a fun idea we've come up with. If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn't like Kick-Ass 2 and then we can go off and make Kick-Ass 3. I think we've got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with Kick-Ass."
The Movie Web recently posted as Kick-Ass was released last April 16th, 2010, Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3 is in development.
The original Kick-Ass movie established the starting careers of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Moretz. Aaron Taylor-Johnsonplayed title character and Chloe Moretz play the role of the Hit-Girl. There is no word yet if both are willing to come back for the prequel or sequel projects.
