The incredibly talented Emmy nominee from "Scandal" is taking on another heavily political role, though this time it comes straight from D.C. reality as Kerry Washington's Anita Hill portrayal in the HBO biopic "Confirmation" gets its very first look.
"Confirmation," a television movie that has no release date as of yet, stars Kerry Washington as Anita Hill as had been previously announced by the subscription network, in a film that tells the story of how Hill, then an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission employee, stood up against Supreme Court nominee Thomas, ultimately halting his confirmation.
According to Jezebel, the Golden Globe nominee posted the first photo of Kerry Washington as Anita Hill last Tuesday on her Instagram account, prompting fans to get excited about the upcoming made-for-television movie, which is expected to be on par to HBO's previous political movie, "Game Change," which starred Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin and Ed Harris as John McCain.
Us Weekly reports that Kerry Washington's Anita Hill involvement doesn't stop at just portraying her in the small screen: the 38 year-old star is also the movie's executive producer, as she reminded fans on her Instagram post.
"Dear @HBO, Thank you for the profound opportunity of getting to inhabit Anita Hill and help tell this story! Yours Truly, K-Dub (aka super excited Exec Producer) #Confirmation," Washington posted.
Besides Kerry Washington as Anita Hill, the film features an all-star cast that also includes "How I Met Your Mother" and Marvel Cinematic Universe actress Cobie Smulders as Harriet Grant, Greg Kinnear as Vice President Joe Biden and Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, among others.
Washington is no stranger to political drama, having played "fixer" Olivia Pope on ABC since 2012, but, as The New York Post reports, her portrayal of Hill takes matters to a whole different level.
