Angelina Jolie: Speaks About The Violence Against Women "Weapon Of War" At The AU Summit

The United Nations Ambassador Angelina Jolie arrived at the Johannesburg for the African Union Summit last weekend to urge international support to end crimes against women.

The arrival of the actress was actually not announced for security purposes. Until Angelina was seen arriving at OR Tambo airport and got the reporter's attention especially when they heard that she is there to address the AU summit.

According to a source the 40 year old actress wanted her visit to be about her cause and not about her.

Angelina spoke about the importance of women's protection and support around the world and how rape is being used as a "weapon of war." She Urged the leaders to help the victims and to help prevent the sexual outbreak from spreading. She is asking the African leaders to take the crime against women seriously.

Some of the highlights of Angelina's argument were being taken down by Marie Claire. The actress stated that "No matter where you live, rape affects you," she thinks that the progress of solutions on the violence against women is slow and the said crime is not being prioritized.

She also added that armed groups use the crime as a "weapon" because of the exemption from punishment. The actress also added that there is a need for policies designed by women to fully protect the welfare of women in the long run. She also believes that enable to have a stable, strong foundation for this advocacy, women should be encouraged to be strong, free, and educated women and should be respected by men.

Celebrities may not change the world in just a short time, but they can definitely help in making a huge difference for a better future. Just like the lead singer of U2, Bono, who is in Ottawa to discuss with the Prime Minister about maternal and child health.
