Spider-Man Casting: ‘Walking Dead’ Actor Auditioned, Are Sony And Marvel Clashing Over ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Casting?

Filming for the third installment of the first Avengers' story, "Captain America: Civil War," has been going on for a few weeks now, and that's where the major new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Peter Parker, will be taking place - but the Spider-Man casting is taking much longer than fans expected.

Comic Book reports that late last week Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl in the AMC zombie show "The Walking Dead," said on Twitter that he had auditioned in the Spider-Man casting a few months back, confirming rumors that Marvel and Sony are currently looking for a much younger Spidey than what they've previously adapted to the big screen, as Riggs is 15 years old.

It's thought that the new film would adapt the character in his high school years, during his relationship with Gwen Stacy.

Over the past few months, a lot has been said about the Spider-Man casting, while there's no confirmation; rumor had it that, for weeks, the leading contender for the role was "Ender's Game" actor Asa Butterfield, but Master Herald reports that the actor is now officially out of the race.

Though it's known that stars like Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson have been filming the movie for a while (and rumor has it the "Iron Man" actor even screen-tested some of the Spidey candidates), there's still no official news on the Spider-Man casting, and rumors are starting to fly.

According to Collider, while Disney and Sony were nearing a decision regarding the Spider-Man casting, things halted due to conflict between the two major production companies, with three possible choices: it seems like the guys at Marvel are really keen on Charlie Plummer (from "Boardwalk Empire") while Sony has been pushing for Tom Holland (from "The Impossible") and lately for Matthew Lintz ("The Crazies").

Spider-Man has proven a major issue for Marvel, as the character is a vital part of the Avengers but, back when the comic company was nearing bankrupt, they sold the characters' film rights to Sony, a company that then went on to create two different movie series from Spidey, one starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and the second one with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Hopefully, news of Spider-Man's casting will become official soon.
