McDonald’s Rotterdam: Netherlands Get FANCIEST McDonald’s Ever, As U.S. Big Mac Sales Fall [PHOTOS]

The house of characters like Ronald McDonald and the recently re-released Hamburglar isn't exactly known was a fancy place to dine in, but there's at least one venue, the newest McDonald's in Rotterdam, Holland, that wants to change the world's perspective of how a Golden Arches restaurant should look like.

This new McDonald's in Rotterdam is actually a much more stylized version of one previously in the same spot, which had been there for the past 45 years ago after being built inside a cigar shop; now, the new concept, created by a Dutch firm of architects, makes the burger giant look like an Apple Store.

According to People Magazine, this new McDonald's in Rotterdam was created by Mei Architects in the famous Coolsingel district of the Dutch port city, which is nearby the landmark city of The Hague, one of the United Nations' biggest centers.

Metro reports that, before the major McDonald's Rotterdam transformation, the building, which has been leased by a franchise of the company for decades, was voted the ugliest one in the entire city by Rotterdam residents, and the city's council had already teased at the possibility that the venue be torn down.

Food Beast reports that the move to completely transform this McDonald's in Rotterdam came as the fast food chain still has 40 years left on their lease of the property, so they chose to have a major makeover for the site instead of waiting for it to come down and potentially lose them thousands of dollars.

While the move shows the chain's willingness to change things up, in fact McDonald's has been struggling with its poorest sales in a full decade, particularly in the U.S., as the fast food industry's numbers fall because patrons are turning to healthier options in their eating habits.

In any case, the new McDonald's in Rotterdam has turned into something of a landmark since its recent launch, and even the United States Embassy in the European country has posted photos of the new restaurant in its Twitter account.
