Following a new trend of big food chains delivering their iconic products right into the doorstep of patrons, the Dunkin' Donuts delivery is now in its trial phases, as the big breakfast company is set out to bring their fanbase energy-boosting doughnuts, coffee and other products.
In a recent interview with CNBC, the company's Brands Chairman and CEO Nigel Travis, said that a Dunkin' Donuts delivery service was currently underway in the breakfast-targeting company, as they're now developing the possibility of ordering their products through a mobile app.
"Delivery is clearly a big opportunity," Travis said regarding the move to launch Dunkin' Donuts delivering. "We're now developing mobile ordering. We're doing a private test. We'll move to a more public test later this year. We'll probably launch mobile ordering sometime next year."
It seems like everybody's hopping on the new delivery trend, from giants like Starbucks, McDonald's and Chipotle to even taxicab service Über, and it's little to no surprise that a Dunkin' Donuts delivery service is also in the works, as it's unlikely the company wishes to stay behind in these fast times.
While it seems like the Dunkin' Donuts delivery service would come directly from the company, Business Insider reports that most chains that have developed this service in the past few months are actually doing so through a third-party company, most notably using Postmates, which has already partnered up with some of the biggest chains in the U.S.
According to Time Magazine, the move towards a more tech-friendly service could give Dunkin' Donuts a much-needed boost, as their fiscal year in 2014 saw the company barely growing by 1.6 percent, while major competitor Starbucks jumped 6 percent in the same U.S. market.
However, the company has started to recover in the first quarter of 2015, although the move to create a Dunkin' Donuts delivery is probably the company's best possible step right now.
