Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has ordered stopping the production and recalling the already available Chinese range of Knoor instant noodles in the market while they await for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to approve their recent application.
The Indian consumer goods company decided to withdraw their products due to the reports that their instant noodles did not pass the the guidelines set by FSSAI.
The company extended an application for a product approval last February 2015 and are still awaiting for the decision.
However, they clarified that the halt in manufacturing is not because of any quality or safety related issues. They claimed that the ingredients they use for their products are ratified by the FSS Regulation.
HUL continues to stay in contact with the food safety body to make sure that they get the approval they need to get back to business. The company is eager to restart the production for their consumers.
FSSAI already released a list last Monday containing the 33 products that have passed and have their approval. The food regulation organization also ordered for the recall, removal from the market, and the obliteration of the products that are not on the list.
FSSAI regularly tests food products and laboratories to check if they are following the guidelines and complying with quality standards. This preventive measure is to ensure that companies produce goods that are safe for consumption.
FSSAI banned nine variants of Maggi noodles last week because they found the instant noodles unsafe and hazardous. The products contained high amounts of lead and taste enhancer monosodium glutamate.
