Major Cybersecurity Company Kaspersky Lab Got Hacked

The Russia-based Kaspersky Lab is considered to be one of the biggest security firms in the world, and the leading anti-virus software provider company admits it was hacked.

Kaspersky Lab called the attack Duqu 2.0, from an identified series of malware called Duqu. The malware is related to the Stuxnet attack that targeted countries such as Iran, India, France, and the Ukraine in 2011.

CEO and founder Eugene Kaspersky of Kaspersky Lab, expressed: "We discovered an advanced attack on our own internal networks. It was complex, stealthy, it exploded several zero-day vulnerabilities, and we're quite confident that there's a nation state behind it."

To infiltrate Kaspersky's networks was the Duqu 2.0 attackers' intention, they desired to learn more about Kaspersky's services. Kaspersky Lab said, the attackers behind Duqu 2.0 is also planning to take aggressive action against several prominent targets.

Kaspersky took this intrusion both in a good and bad light. The negative side clearly is that the security of their firm was hacked, however on the positive side, Kaspersky claims that their services or customer's data were not compromised.

Eugene Kaspersky, chief executive of the company stated, "Spying on cybersecurity companies is a very dangerous tendency," "The only way to protect the world is to have law enforcement agencies and security companies fighting such attacks openly," and Eugen added: "We will always report attacks regardless of their origin."

It is not the first time for Kaspersky Lab got hit by an attack. This goes to show how highly agressive hacking has become. Hackers can strike even the most knowledgeable and supposedly secure companies. They can even get through into US government computers.

Duqu 2.0 attack is still under investigation as Kaspersky said, and they don't want to point fingers regarding who is responsible for the attack. But the company is persistently persuading the federal agencies to call upon a criminal investigations.
