Boy George 2015: ‘Karma Chameleon’ Singer Honored At Ivor Novellos – Speaks About Music ‘Ageism’ In Acceptance Speech

The Ivor Novello Awards, held once a year in London, are named after Welsh-born entertainer, and they're given by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) to the top songwriters and composers in the United Kingdom and Ireland - and this year, Boy George's 2015 made news as he became one of the honorees.

The famous "Karma Chameleon" singer, one of the most important performers of the glam movement, has been mostly under the spotlight in the past few years, and Boy George's 2015 speech at the Ivor Novellos shows that it may not be entirely his own doing, but rather working in an ageist industry at 53 years old.

According to BBC, other than Boy George's 2015 appearance, the ceremony also included the talents of such as Kylie Minogue, Elton John and Queen guitarist star Brian May, all of whom presented awards to others.

Music-News reports that besides Boy George's 2015 award, others honored included Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Manic Street Preachers, Bombay Bicycle Club frontman Jack Steadman and Annie Lennox, among many others.

The place that saw Boy George's 2015 appearance and speech was the UK capital's Grosvenor House Hotel.

According to The Irish Examiner, Boy George couldn't stop from making a few jokes about how it is to survive in the music industry at his age, claiming he's continued to live in the 1970s, where many of his hits lie - though not his most successful song, "Karma Chameleon," which is one of the most iconic tunes of the 1980s.

"You don't stop being creative just because go past 30 or 50," said the singer, with his comments being met with a round of applause.

In the past, the "King to Everything" hitmaker has spoken against music industry's ageism, and earlier in the year Boy George's 2015 saw him supporting Madonna when she spoke against a station that wouldn't play her music by calling her "irrelevant."
