William Shatner 3 Wheel Ride: Captain Kirk's Rivet Riding Getting His Kicks On 66 - At 84! [PHOTO]

After being associated with the phrase "to boldly go where no man has gone before" for almost five decades, the man who became a superstar for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the original "Star Trek" series and films is taking on a new adventure with William Shatner's 3-wheel ride.

Taking into account a line from the classic rock song "Route 66," William Shatner's 3-wheel ride will see him going from Chicago to Los Angeles, just as the old tune says - in an odd-looking bike the 84 year-old actor himself helped design!

E! Online reports that William Shatner's 3-wheel ride or "trike" will see the Emmy-winning actor going across the country mostly on the famous Route 66 highway in a journey set to last for 8 days as he rides past 2,400 miles from coast to coast of the United States.

Comic Book reports that William Shatner's 3-wheel ride is the first of its kind, as American Wrench built the Rivet bike for the actor so he'll go through this major trek, for once not involving stars; the "Boston Legal" actor will begin his journey barely outside of Chicago and will stop in St. Louis, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Las Vegas - to finally end the trip in Los Angeles.

William Shatner's 3-wheel ride will happen between the 23rd of June and the 30th, and the entire event will be shot for television, in what's thought to be a future mini-series about the voyage.

According to Yahoo! News, the reason behind Shatner's ride stems from his desire to raise awareness about the American Legion as well as promoting his custom trike, which American Wrench has said is inspired by the B-17 bomber.

Good luck to Captain James T. Kirk as William Shatner's 3-wheel ride goes where no 3-wheel ride has gone before!
