Amazon Hiring Developers for First Foray into PC Gaming

Ecommerce giant Amazon has had its eyes on the gaming industry for a while now. The company may be moving closer to realizing that goal after their most recent moves in the gaming world. Last week, Amazon announced that it was seeking developers to join the company to work on what they describe as an "ambitious new PC game project using the latest technology."

Amazon's official job posting reads: "We believe that games have just scratched the surface in their power to unite players," the job posting reads, "and will produce some of the future's most influential voices in media and art."

Kim Swift, a senior designer at Amazon, echoed the sentiment on her personal Linkedin page saying: "Our team in Seattle has worked on a lot of great titles including Portal, Left for Dead, Half Life 2, Dota 2, World of Warcraft, Halo, Infamous, Shadows of Mordor, and many others. We want people that are driven to make the best games in the industry. We're looking to take interesting risks, and invent!"

The ad also says that Amazon's other properties will play a huge role in the development of their games. These include their cloud network called Amazon Web Services and Twitch.tv, the popular streaming and broadcasting service which they purchased for nearly $1BN last year.

This is will not be the first game Amazon has developed. The online retail king has already created a number of games, but these have most mostly been limited to mobile platforms and Amazon's own devices such as the Kindle.

Last Amazon also acquired video game studio Double Helix. Their most notable work being the Xbox exclusive reboot of the popular fighting game franchise 'Killer Instinct'. It's too early to tell what Amazon's future pc game will be, but it seems like the company is intent on making it a reality.
