Lebron James turned in another spectacular performance to help his Injury riddled Cavaliers take Game 2 of the best of 7 NBA finals series. The Cavs, playing with a paltry seven man rotation, took game 2 95-93, showing no indication they were without All Star guard Kyrie Irving, who suffered a season ending knee injury in the first contest.
The four time MVP was immense in Game 2, tallying 39 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists. All game highs. James did struggle from the field making just 11 of his 35 shot attempts while missing a potential buzzer beater at the end of regulation.
In Irving's absence, Timofey Mozgov and Matthew Dellavedova came up big for the Cavs. Mozgov finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Dellavedova hit two crucial free throws in the extra period.
The Cavs held ball posession, against the Warriors for most of the game, controlling the lead for most of the second half. However the Warriors clawed their way back from an 11 point deficit in the game's final 3:13 to force overtime thanks to a series of close calls going their way on both ends.
It was a game to forget for the Warriors and their superstar guard Stephen Curry. The reigning MVP could not find his shot all game missing 18 of his 23 attempts from the field. In addition, Curry coughed the ball up six times and air balled a possible go ahead jumper in the dying seconds of overtime. As a team, the Warriors shot 40% from the field and a miserable 23% from behind the three point arc.
The lone bright spot for Golden State was Klay Thompson. The other Splash Brother poured in 34 points on 50% shooting.
Game 3 of the NBA finals shifts to Cleveland. Tip off will be on June 9 at 9PM ET.
