Lil Wayne has not only been signed on as a co-owner for streaming service Tidal, but he has just released a fresh new track off of his much anticipated album "Free Weezy." The song was made available exclusively on the Jay Z-owned app on Wednesday, June 3.
The 32-year-old rapper joins the ranks of other big names in the music industry, including Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Calvin Harris, Alicia Keys and Madonna.
Senior executive Vania Schloge also announced that he will be having his own Tidal X show. Weezy confirms this news in a statement.
"Tidal is a great way to share music directly with fans," he said. "I'm hyped for people to hear my latest track and can't wait to show fans love through a special TIDAL X.".
He also dropped the 5-minute song "Glory," which was produced by Infamous, Avenue Beatz and Onhel Avenue. The track starts off with a choir-like hymn before Weezer starts spewing out lines like "I'm Clinton, well, I did inhale," "I meditate like a Buddhist, holy Ramen noodles".
Many first listeners are impressed that he raps for almost majority of the single.
"Free Weezy" was released just a few months after January's EP "Sorry 4 the Wait 2." The title and a few songs from the new album seems to refer to the rapper's ongoing $51 million case against Cash Money Records.
Existing Tidal members can get a hold of "Glory" before it hits music and online stores, while other fans can register for the service. Students who use their school email address - ones with an .edu domain - can get 50% off the monthly fees.
The company is also offering a free one-month trial where users can enjoy features that are similar to those with premium accounts.
The new partnership and album are sure to increase Lil Wayne's net worth even more. His current net worth is at $140 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.
