John Galliano Facing Huge Changes

Big changes are happening at John Galliano. The brand has created a new logo, in addition to some rebranding overhaul.

Vogue UK reports that the logo change is to match the release of a "premium-contemporary line following a licensee deal with Modalis." The official release reports, "Because writing a new chapter is as much about how the words appear as what they say."

Creative director Bill Gaytten further added, "Now is the right moment to bid farewell to the old gothic gazette lettering. We have a great opportunity to reimagine a look that is both timeless and of our time."

But there's a lot more to look forward to from Maison John Galliano. Gaytten also shared, "While the runway expresses the talent and skills of our atelier, these clothes embody newness with wide appeal."

The previous logo has been in use since 2000. Franck Durand is the man responsible for the newly created logo and packaging. He explains the creative process behind the overhaul.

"Embedded in this new identity is the energy of late Eighties London, when artists and designers twisted established ideas. This refined-meets-raw attitude, also at the heart of the maison, has strong graphic potential, so played off that," Durand said.

Chief executive officer Dominique de Longvialle also shared her sentiments about the new image of the brand. "We're excited by what the logo and all the subsequent initiatives represent."

Longvialle continued, "We believe this new visual identity expresses resurgence of Maison John Galliano's creative output and revival of its original ideas."

Designer John Galliano was dismissed back in 2011 for anti-Semitic remarks. Since then, Bill Gaytten took over the creative director position for the brand. The designer has not worked with the brand since his dismissal.
