Kendrick Lamar is still boasting about his most recent album, "To Pimp A Butterfly." Lamar claims that while producing the album, the process was very therapeutic and was of great help while suffering from depression.
In the past, Kendrick has always expressed his intentions to use his material as a form of inspiration and "powerful force" for his fans. Seems as though Lamar's intentions came to life when he met a fan at his performance at the Sweetlife Festival over the weekend.
"I'm at the end of the show, and I see this young lady crying, and I'm thinking, 'She must be really going through something right now," Lamar told MTV News.
He continues to recall the moment, "Then I start hearing her murmur with her lips, 'You saved my life.' So I'm like, damn. This is serious. This is not for play, why she's out here right now. She came to see the person that actually helped her get through a life, through music."
"Then she said, 'I was gonna kill myself last year.' So I said, at that point, I gotta bring her up onstage and show her some love and let her know this is real," he added.
The rapper, who was given the General Icon award for exemplary role model tried to reach out to the fan while on stage. "He saw me crying, he tried to touch me, he couldn't reach, and then he just said to the security guard, 'Bring her up.' And I lost it," the fan recalled.
The 16-year-old fan was introduced as Claire, who shared an emotion-filled hug with the Compton rapper. Claire shared her story with MTV News saying, "When I was 15, I was diagnosed with severe depression, and Kendrick got me through it."
Claire continued, "And I couldn't have done it without him. I listened to his music over and over and there were nights where I thought I was going to end it all, and I didn't, and I think that's because his words impacted me in a way that no other artist has ever done."
