Trevor Noah will be taking over Jon Stewart's hosting duties for "The Daily Show" as the latter closes his final episode on August 6th. Comedy Central announced the debut date for Noah on Twitter.
"@Trevornoah starts his new job September 28. Late night will NEVER BE THE SAME. Or maybe it will. Watch to find out," the talk show said on Thursday.
The tweet was also accompanied by a link to a trailer for the new host. In the video, Trevor "[gets] comfortable in Jon's chair" just before an embarrassing moment. Watch it below.
In the beginning, Noah was an on-air contributor in December. After a couple more stints (three appearances, to be exact), Comedy Central then announced in March that Trevor Noah will be the new anchor for the show.
However, it hasn't all been a good embrace for Trevor. Not even a day after Comedy Central announced its new anchor, critics started voicing out opinions on past tweets from the Trevor Noah. Some criticisms include calling his past tweets "misogynistic" and "anti-Semitic."
But Noah took the high road and expressed his response on his Twitter account. Dated March 31 of this year, Trevor wrote, "To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn't land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian."
Surely enough, Comedy Central also stood by Trevor. "Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included..." Comedy Central said in a statement.
They continued, "To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central."
Jon Stewart announced his decision to leave the show in February. He has been the anchor for "The Daily Show" a whopping 16 years. He first signed on as host in 1999.
