Brad Pitt's 'World War Z' Sequel to be Released Same Day as 'Fantastic Four 2'

Superheroes and the undead will battle over box office wins come 2017. It has just been announced that the sequel to 'World War Z' will be released on the same day as 'Fantastic Four 2.'

Hollywood Reporter announced that the 'World War Z' sequel will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who had previously worked on the disaster drama 'The Impossible.' Brad Pitt's production company Plan B is set to produce, while Steven Knight has been attached to write the screenplay. It has not been confirmed whether Pitt will reprise his role as Gerry Lane.

Meanwhile, the planned sequel of 'Fantastic Four' already has a release date although the 2015 reboot has yet to premiere. The movie will still feature Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. Avi Avad and Stan Lee will be executive producers of 'Fantastic Four 2.'

Both sequels are scheduled for release on June 9, 2017.

The first 'World War Z' was based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks. The 2013 film adaptation starred Pitt, Mireille Enos, Fana Mokoena, Matthew Fox and David Morse. The movie followed Lane (Pitt) as he searches around the world for a cure for a global zombie pandemic.

'Fantastic Four' features Teller as Reed Richards, Mara as Susan Storm, Jordan as Johnny Storm and Bell as Ben Grimm. In the movie, the four heroes must learn how to use their powers to defeat Victor Domashev (Toby Kopell), a villainous former friend known simply as 'Doom.'

The film is directed by Josh Trank, who also made news when he dropped out from the second Star Wars Anthology standalone film. Although the director issued a statement that he had decided to leave the project, there were speculations that he was fired for several production problems.

'Fantastic Four' will premiere on August 7, 2015.
