Suspect Identified in Brutal Killing of Wealthy DC Family

Police identified a suspect in the brutal slayings of a wealthy Washington family and their housekeeper inside their home yesterday. The house, valued at US$4.5 million, was then intentionally set on fire to hide the evidence.

The Metropolitan Police Department arrested 34-year-old Daron Dylon Wint as the primary suspect, on charges of first-degree murder.

The authorities are only revealng limited information about who might have committed the crime and the reasons behind it. Recent developments however, have added a bit of confusion to the investigation.

Detectives have found records of a 'Daron Wint' who was convicted in Maryland in 2009 for second-degree assault.

A certain 'Darin Dylon Wint' pleaded guilty to malicoius destruction of property and also charged with burglary. In 2010, he was also issued a protective order.

Both of these people are from Lanham, Maryland, near where police found the victims' 2008 blue Porsche that went missing during investigation. The car was also found to have been set on fire and dumped in a parking lot in suburban Maryland.

Police have not yet confirmed if Daron Wint, Darin Dylon Wint and Daron Dylon Wint is just the same person.

Homeowners Savvas Savopoulus, 46, Amy Savopoulos, 47, Philip Savopoulus, 10 and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, 57 were homicide victims according to Police Chief Cathy Lanier. At least three of them were stabbed and had blunt-force injuries.

It was believed that their injuries occured before the house was burned down Thursday afternoon.

Savves and Amy had two older daughters who are attending boarding school when the crime occured. Both are safe and the authorities know of their whereabouts, according to a police spokeswoman.

There was no sign of forced entry. Lanier said that they will be investigating the area for several more days to find more pieces of evidence. "There's still a lot more that we don't know," she added.
