Bill Murray Pops Out of Cake in Best David Letterman Guest Appearance [VIDEO]

Bill Murray knows how to make an entrance. In last night's 'The Late Show,' the comedian decided to hide inside a large cake for David Letterman. As the host approached the cake, Murray broke out to give him an icing-covered hug.

The video shows Letterman introducing Murray to his audience. However, as the curtain was raised, it revealed a cake flanked by two women. The icing on the cake read, "Good Bye Dave."

As the audience applauded, it began to crumble and Murray fell forward from the ruined cake. Letterman attempted to help the comedian up but ended up in Murray's icing-filled arms.

Getting Letterman covered in cake was not enough for Murray. He then proceeded to swipe his messy hands over band leader Paul Shafer's microphone. One lucky audience member got to kiss Murray's cake-encrusted face as he shared the icing with the crowd.

Murray has a long history of making outlandish appearances on 'The Late Show.' It started in 2009 when he showed up in a smoking jacket and matching hat. Through the years, the comedian was dressed as a figure skater, a jockey and an American football player. One of Murray's most memorable entrances was in 2013 when he rolled in in a Rolls Royce dressed as Liberace.

The comedian and the TV host have a long-standing friendship. Murray was Letterman's first guest on his first night as 'The Late Night' host in 1982. Letterman awarded Murray the number one spot in his final Top Ten list.

Letterman has hosted 'Late Night' and 'The Late Show' for over three decades. He has received numerous awards and nominations, and recently got the Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence from the Comedy Awards.

Stephen Colbert will replace Letterman as host of 'The Late Show.' Letterman's last show aired on May 20, 2015.
