The executives behind the major casual dining Italian-themed chain are more than aware of the power the Olive Garden breadsticks have to call customers into their shops, as they've always offered never-ending ones for patrons; now, they're taking advantage of the delicious product in the oddest way!
In the past, Food World News has reported on some of the oddest promos released by the chain, including last year's highly controversial coupon "Never-Ending Pasta Pass," which bought 1,000 Italian food lovers seven weeks' worth of the carb-filled meal, along with Coca-Cola soft drinks and equally never-ending salad and Olive Garden breadsticks.
The new Olive Garden breadsticks sandwiches sound rather like Taco Bell's oddest breakfast efforts, such as the Frito Taco, the Waffle Taco and the more recent Biscuit Taco, all of which are basically just tortilla-shaped but actually what their first names suggest.
Now, according to USA Today, the new Olive Garden breadsticks sandwiches will first appear in shops around the country on June 1, when patrons of the restaurants will find the option among the restaurants' lunch menu, featuring two sandwiches for now: chicken parmigiana or meatball, both made with their iconic breadsticks.
"We're always looking to evolve our menu," said Jessica Dinon, a spokesperson for the chain. "We're always bringing on new items, and right now we're really taking those dishes our guests know and love and giving them more ways to enjoy it. Obviously people love our breadsticks."
Website BuzzFeed seems particularly impressed with the Olive Garden breadsticks sandwiches, calling saying "we all win" when the delicious food items get "upgraded."
Us Weekly reports that, while the recipe for the Olive Garden breadsticks will remain unaltered for their sandwich versions, the size will be somewhat altered and they'll be shorter than the regular breadsticks served to diners, as well as wider to fit the ingredients of the sandwich.
