Back in 2004, Pixar released one of its most beloved animated films to date, about a family of superheroes who have gone into hiding after "the supers" stopped being government-approved; ever since, fans have eagerly awaited for "The Incredibles 2" movie sequel, and now it's been confirmed that the project will be released next year!
Brad Bird is one of the biggest names working at Disney right now, having been involved in contemporary classics like "Ratatouille" and "Up" besides the original film "The Incredibles 2" movie will be set after - and now he's stated without a shade of doubt that he'll be going back to direct the highly anticipated sequel!
According to Time Magazine, "The Incredibles 2" movie was sort of halted as Bird was making (and now promoting) his newest project with Disney, a fantasy live-action movie called "Tomorrowland" starring Oscar-winning actor and producer George Clooney and "House" star Hugh Laurie.
In a recent interview with Collider, Bird was thoroughly asked about how "The Incredibles 2" movie was coming along, as he's responsible for writing the project as well as directing it, the same way he did with the original film.
"Oh yeah I have pages, a bunch of pages," Bird told the outlet. "I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn't get a chance to use, that I like. I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn't enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I'm just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again."
He then went on to confirm that, indeed, "The Incredibles 2" movie would be his next project!
Interestingly enough, Indie Wire reports that "The Incredibles 2" movie might not be the only Disney project in the works for the "Simpsons" alum; apparently, Bird is also in talks with the major company to direct one of the "Star Wars" movies of the new trilogy, after he was actually in the cards to direct "The Force Awakens" before J.J. Abrams was ultimately hired for the project.
