There are few men in the world who have done as much for geek culture than the creator of shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly," and lately Joss Whedon's Disney work has seen the director hand over some of his best stuff to date, after writing and directing the two "Avengers" films so far.
While Joss Whedon's Disney work is mostly known as being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in fact he has a long history with the company, having also been a part of the writing team behind the 2001 animated film "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" and even "Toy Story."
Now, according to Overmental, Joss Whedon's Disney collaboration could grow even further, as the famous director and screenwriter has reportedly been tipped to be behind the camera in the last installment of the new "Star Wars" trilogy, after J.J. Abrams directed "The Force Awakens" and Rian Johnson is set to do the same for "Episode VIII."
The first report came from the "Get Your Geek On Podcast," which stated that the "Serenity" director was basically "a lock" to close out the trilogy and yet another Joss Whedon Disney collaboration.
Another possibility that has been mentioned for Joss Whedon's Disney return is that he could direct the upcoming "Star Wars" spinoff starring Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, after Josh Trank announced he was departing the project.
According to Cinema Blend, the original reports that put Whedon as director of any of the "Star Wars" films seem "extremely dubious," as the podcast was actually attempting to start a rumor; however, Making Star Wars, a website dedicated to legitimate updates about the George Lucas characters, broke the news that Whedon's name was indeed in the mix for the third installment of the new trilogy, though it was very far from confirmation.
Given Joss Whedon's Disney record making amazing movies and television shows (he's an executive producer and occasional writer for the first MCU show, "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD"), the confirmation of these rumors would be absolutely spectacular!
