Last month, the Russel Athletic company (they make athletic apparel) and Sperling's BestPlaces teamed up and released the results of a survey that ranked the cities which have the healthiest habits.
The survey asked individuals to estimate how often they eat fruit, green salad, and carrots. People were also asked how many servings of vegetables they usually ate. In addition to that information, the major metropolitan areas were ranked "on healthy-living measures such as number of gyms and athletic clubs per capita, hiking and running trails per capita, [and] percent of population commuting by foot or bike," according to the Huffington Post. Other factors like the BMI of the population were also included in calulating the standings, according to the press release.
While we don't want to give away who clinched the #1 spot (the links in the article will lead you to the results), we will say that the top 15 areas were scattered all around the country, from Boston to Denver to Honolulu to Salt Lake City. In fact, Minneapolis reported the highest number of residents getting regular exercise.
In other ranking-related news, Nature's Plate is currently asking for people to submit their votes for the Greenest Restaurant in New York. Voters can choose from five restaurants that made it to the final round, and the restaurant with the most votes will be crowned the People's Choice Winner. You can cast your vote here.
