Princess Of Cambridge Name: What Does Name Charlotte Elizabeth Diana Mean To Windsor Family? [PHOTO]

Only two days after the announcement of Prince William and Kate Middleton's second child, a baby daughter, the Princess of Cambridge's name has been revealed as being Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, honoring some of the women in her family, including her great-grandmother and the current Queen of England.

Before the Princess of Cambridge's name had been announced, Food World News had vastly reported on the birth of the baby girl, who is now officially the fourth in line to the throne of England, after her grandfather Charles, her dad William and her big brother George - and her mom has kept in shape this whole time, even in spite of her condition early in her pregnancy!

According to Gawker, one of the first reactions upon hearing the Princess of Cambridge's name was a worldwide reference to "Sex and the City," which featured a character named Charlotte York, played by Kristin Davis; throughout the run of the show, fans would refer to themselves as being "such a Charlotte" or any of the other characters, referencing their own traits - and, unsurprisingly enough, there were jokes about this all over the Internet!

The revelation of the Princess of Cambridge's name turns her into the second European royal by the name of Charlotte, after Monaco's Charlotte Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline and granddaughter of Oscar-winning classic actress Grace Kelly - and a fashion icon on her own right.

As The Telegraph reports, the Princess of Cambridge's name honors history as well as Prince William's mother, the late Princess Diana of Wales, by naming their second child and first daughter after William's father, Charles, as Charlotte is the obvious feminine form of the name.

The baby girl is the second Princess Charlotte to be an heir to the throne, as a 19th century wife of Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld was also named the same way, although she died at the young age of 21 during childbirth.

"This name is fitting for the princess because it's historically significant but it's also personal to the duke and duchess of Cambridge," said Linda Rosenkrantz, the co-founder of Nameberry, to Yahoo. "Charlotte is the feminine version of Charles, the father of Prince William and is a version of Carole, the name of Kate's mother. Charlotte is also the middle name of Pippa Middleton, Kate's sister."

The other choices of the Princess of Cambridge's name are far more obvious, honoring William's grandmother Elizabeth and his mother, Diana.
