Loki Joss Whedon: ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Director Talks About Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Absence [VIDEO]

Now that "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is officially in theaters all over the world, many are wondering what happened to one of the biggest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor's brother, as Tom Hiddleston had been rumored to be a part of the new film - now, the director steps out and explains Loki's Joss Whedon disappearance.

Back in November, Idris Elba (who plays Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) had first spilled that he and Hiddleston would be appearing on the "Avengers" sequel, after Loki was the all-time villain in the first one; however, once audiences saw the film, Loki's Joss Whedon disappearance became obvious.

According to AV Club, a recent Loki Joss Whedon interview revealed why the director chose to cut Thor's adopted brother from the film, even though he had been cast for a small appearance and his scenes had been filmed.

Screen Rant reports that Loki's the most beloved villain in the MCU, so it was a shock to viewers that he didn't even have a small role in the movie.

As Food World News had reported before, Loki's scepter from the first movie plays a huge role in the sequel, as it's revealed to contain one of the Infinity Stones, in particular the Mind Gem, which HYDRA uses for experimentation and ends up being one of the components of The Vision, Paul Bettany's new character and an Avenger - which is the reason behind the Loki Joss Whedon interview.

"We did shoot something, but it didn't play," went the Loki Joss Whedon interview, according to MTV. "The movie has so much. It's so filled. We didn't want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus."

Considering the fact that the film runs a full 141 minutes (almost two hours and a half), it makes sense that the director considered that the film could've had too much going on when adding Loki, who Thor thinks is dead at the end of "Thor: The Dark World."
