Paul Barth Uses the Sun to Cook

Paul Barth of Sacramento, California has taken an environmentally-friendly (and economical) approach to cooking. He uses a solar cooker to heat his food. The solar cooker heats food up to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing Barth to eat roasted vegetables, lasagna, and rice -- all without using an oven. In fact, he has cooked almost all of his meals without an oven for more than 20 years.

This saves energy and natural resources. It also saves money. Barth estimates that using a solar cooker instead of an oven would save a family of four between 20 and 30% of their energy bill.
