Chipotle Mexican Grill is one of the fastest-growing food chains in the world, practically inventing the popular new format of fast casual dining; now, as the ethically aware chain has turned into one of the biggest restaurant chains in the country, they're also introducing a Chipotle delivery trial in a number of US cities.
In the past, Food World News has reported on several new developments from the Denver-based restaurant chain, including their attempts to popularize their tofu line (by giving patrons a free burrito in exchange for trying the new product) and even how they're currently expanding their pizza chain, Pizzeria Locale, so the Chipotle delivery trial seems like the next logical step.
According to Forbes, the Chipotle delivery trial for now will only be featuring 67 cities in the US, and among them are some of the biggest towns in the country, particularly those in states Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington.
USA Today reports that the Chipotle delivery trial puts the millennial favorite restaurant chain in direct competition with Starbucks, as the company headquartered in Seattle is also planning on trying out food delivery in the Seattle area later on in 2015.
Popular fast food chain Taco Bell also recently announced plans to include a delivery system, and so has controversial taxicab app Uber, launching the service in Los Angeles and Barcelona.
QZ reports that the Chipotle delivery trial will be using Postmates, a third-party operator that specializes in this area - it's the company that'll provide the same service to Starbucks in Seattle.
"There have been a lot of people that have been delivering Chipotle through various services over the years and we've tried in a lot of cases to shut them down," said Chipotle's chief marketing and development officer Mark Crumpacker. "We weren't sure whether the quality was going to be sufficient or whether they were following our rules."
It seems they've found their match, and the new Chipotle delivery trial includes cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Denver.
