World's Happiest Countries- Do you live in one of the happiest countries in the world? This year, Switzerland takes the lead of the world's happiest countries as announced in New York on Thursday.
The poll was conducted by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) under the United Nations.
As Switzerland topped the world's happiest countries, other countries that you may find favorable to live with include Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Finland, Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia.
What really makes people happy in those countries? Is it their food, weather or traditions? Based on CNN report, people who live in the world's happiest countries have better support, can experience more generosity, there's more liberty in making choices and people have longer life expectancies.
The study, also called World Happiness Report evaluated a total of 158 countries where they used Gallup World Poll data considering various variables including healthy life expectancy, GDP per capita, social freedoms and corruption levels, the BBC reported.
The world's happiest countries report is the third annual report since the United Nations started it in 2012. It was designed to measure happiness as a way to influence government policies.
Aside from Switzerland, other European countries that belongs to top ten of the world's happiest countries enumerates the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, Finland, and Australia.
Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University stated that for two consecutive years, the top 13 world's happiest countries didn't change. They just change their position.
"One of our very strong recommendations is that we should be using measurements of happiness . . . to help guide the world during this period of the new sustainable development goals," Sachs said.
As the world's happiest countries were announced, the world's 10 least happy countries include Afghanistan ,Togo, Burundi, Benin, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, and Chad.
Based on the report of the world's happiest countries, it was found out that money is not the only factor that makes a happy nation, but honesty, fairness, trust and good health really matters a lot. This is the reason why some countries remain a happy country despite having natural disasters and economic turmoil.
