The next time you think about handing the delivery guy a $2 tip, think again! On his Tumblr blog, which he has named 15%, 20-year-old Larry Fox publically shames bad tippers and rude customers. Though he primarily works as a designer and developer, he makes deliveries for restaurants in Brooklyn on the side. His blog caught the attention of websites like SlashFood and Gothamist.
He started the blog because he “just got tired of all these big companies, these TV shows and movie sets giving us two or three dollar tips on a $90 order,” he said. “The excuse that 'we can't tip because that's what corporate says' is wrong. I find it disrespectful. And I wanted to make people aware of that.”
Using photos of bills with lousy tips written in, Fox makes his point. Don’t worry, though, if you’re simply unsure of proper delivery tip etiquette – Fox answers questions about what is and is not acceptable in various tipping situations (eg: Always tip on the full price of the item, even if it’s been discounted for happy hour). He also allows others to write in with their sub-par gratuity experiences.
“This is for all the people who have been handed $80 on a $78 order and told ‘keep the change,’” he said.
