McDonald's $5 Burger is a premium third-pounder that will be out later this month. Obviously, it's another attempt to entice its decreasing number of customers. Will the entry of McDonald's $5 Burger last or it is just another product that will be doomed just like the previous $4.99 third pounder burgers?
McDonald's $5 Burger is not a new offering from the fast food giant. In fact, the $4.99 sandwich, a Sirloin Third Pound burger was just a follow-up to its predecessor Angus Third Pounders, which was offered at same price. However, it was removed from its line of products four years after.
Lisa McComb, McDonald's spokewoman stated that McDonald's $5 Burger is a new sirloin burger that is garnished with real and fresh ingredients. It is "thick & juicy, beefy, and high-quality." McDonald's diners could choose from grilled onions, bacon, cheddar cheese, and creamy peppercorn sauce as toppings.
"We know that consumers care about their food. They want it to be real, fresh and authentic," she said.
With the entry of McDonald's $5 Burger in the premium burgers, SCPR stated that the fast-food giant company's move is somewhat 'conflicting' and some kind of 'panic' when they tried to simplify the menus and keep prices low.
In December, the company announced that it will be streamlining its offerings by removing some menu items in order to hasten its service.
Panos Mourdoukoutas, chair of the economics department at Long Island University said that although the company is trying to renovate its offerings, the move to offer conflicting menus is somewhat 'radical' that it seemed the company even want to change its name McDonald's to renew everything.
Prior to McDonald's $5 Burger, the world's largest restaurant chain has also tested various streamlined projects including "Create Your Taste" menu, Bundt cakes and petite pastries. All-day breakfast, and Healthier chickens.
McDonald's $5 Burger comes in three variations:
Steakhouse Third Pound includes sautéed mushrooms, creamy peppercorn sauce and beef seasonings
Bacon & Cheese Sirloin Third Pound consists of bacon, white Cheddar, beef seasoning, mustard, red onion, pickles, and ketchup
Lettuce & Tomato Sirloin Third Pound has leaf lettuce, mustard, white cheddar, tomato, red onion, pickles mayo, and beef seasoning.
