Whether you enjoy Pizza Hut's croutons or not, it's unlikely that you've ever considered suing the pizza chain over them, but the fact is that someone found them so hard they ended up getting a tooth chipped - and it was the turn for the guys in the chain to pay up for damages.
In the past few months, Food World News has reported that the fast food giant went through a heavy rebranding strategy last fall, and later on the Australian franchise introduced the frighteningly decadent Doritos pizza; now, back home, Pizza Hut croutons give the company headaches.
According to The Independent, a Harriman, Tennessee man called Everett Charttman went to the fast food chain a while ago and ordered a salad, and as he was eating it, he found that the Pizza Hut croutons were so hard he'd actually broken a "partial denture," which prompted him to file a lawsuit against the company.
AOL reports that Charttman and his lawyer first attempted to resolve the Pizza Hut croutons issue through their insurance company, but apparently negotiations stalled on that account and they ended up proceeding with a lawsuit against the major chain.
Ultimately, the judge ruled that the company had to pay him $2,400 in damages, plus court and interests costs.
The New York Daily News reports that, absurd as it may sound, the Pizza Hut croutons issue isn't the first time that salads are on the spotlight negatively in the recent past, as seemingly a Manhattan model filed a lawsuit against an eatery in Nolita when she broke two teeth when she was served a stone in a warm lentil salad.
Pizza Hut was also part of some controversy last year when an employee at one of the fast food restaurant's venues called a woman a "Pink Fat Lady" - and around the same time, a West Virginia manager was caught urinating in the restaurant's sink.
Besides the obvious absurdity of the whole Pizza Hut croutons issue, many news outlets have jokingly wondered why was Charttman eating a salad at Pizza Hut in the first place.
