Though fans around the world have mostly forgotten about Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon's relationship, the fact is that she was the legendary musician's first wife and the mother of his first child - and, for the rest of her life, that's what the world saw her as.
In 1968, the relationship between Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon made news all over the world, as the man who was one of the biggest names of the massively successful band The Beatles left her for another woman, in one of music history's biggest gossips.
Now, as The New York Times reports, the 75 year-old woman died, almost 35 years after her first husband was murdered outside the Manhattan home he shared with Yoko Ono; though more than 40 years have passed since their divorce, Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon's relationship is still all that's talked about in her obituaries.
Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon married in 1962, after they discovered that Cynthia was pregnant with their child, British musician Julian Lennon. Their relationship was forever marked by the way they'd had to marry, and after John met Yoko he said he'd often feel trapped in his marriage.
The announcement of her death was made through a website created for that purpose, as they announced that, long after Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon's relationship, the Hoylake-born had died.
"Cynthia Lennon passed away today at her home in Mallorca, Spain following a short but brave battle with cancer," the website states. "Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time."
NME reports that former Beatle Paul McCartney (who wrote the famed song "Hey Jude" for Julian following his parents' divorce in the late 60s) and Ono herself have led the obituaries, with the Japanese-American philanthropist calling Cynthia "a great person and a wonderful mother."
Ringo Starr also expressed his condolences through his Twitter account.
Below you can find a video that Julian Lennon posted in the abovementioned website about her passing, going through Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon's relationship and well beyond.
