It's been over 15 years since the last time that Craig T. Nelson's "Coach" role was seen on television with new episodes, but now the classic and beloved ABC show's getting a new revival, all while also moving to a different network: NBC.
It seems like this is the era of revivals and reboots, with Netflix being two steps ahead of the game, bringing back a new Paul Reubens "Pee-Wee Herman" film as well as recently releasing a new "Inspector Gadget" animated series - but NBC also wants a piece of the pie, and they're bringing Craig T. Nelson's "Coach" to prep the team!
According to CNN, the new Craig T. Nelson "Coach" series will come in the 13-episode format that the show usually had in its first season and has now become the norm for a lot of networks, including Netflix and AMC.
Before the Craig T. Nelson "Coach" revival was announced, the iconic Emmy-winning actor had recently been a part of another NBC show, "Parenthood," a family drama that ran for six seasons on the network.
Us Weekly reports that, during the run of "Parenthood," the "Poltergeist" actor called out NBC for not promoting the show enough, and it was said that its relatively show stint was because of this - but it seems they've put their differences behind for the Craig T. Nelson "Coach" revival.
The original show ran from 1989 until 1997, and it starred the actor as a university football coach named Hayden Fox that was absolutely passionate about football and his job. The series co-starred Jerry Van Dyke as Assistant Coach Luther Horatio Van Dam, Shelley Fabares as Christine Armstrong, Bill Fagerbakke as Dauber Dybinski and Clare Carey as Kelly Fox.
For now, very little is known about the new Craig T. Nelson "Coach" revival, as there hasn't been an official date announced as of yet.
