Last month, the 1965 classic musical made headlines around the world after pop star Lady Gaga performed a chilling medley based on its songs, to the amazement of the actress who played Maria Von Trapp in the film - now, as the film celebrates its golden anniversary, Julie Andrews' "Sound of Music" opinion comes out.
Andrews is best known for her role as the mother of the Von Trapp family, as well as for the Disney classic "Mary Poppins," for which she won her only Academy Award to date; fifty years after the release of the original movie, Julie Andrews' "Sound of Music" thoughts come to light in a rare interview.
Jezebel reports that a new Julie Andrews "Sound of Music" interview with Diane Sawyer just aired on ABC last Wednesday, and the actress spoke candidly about her many years in Hollywood, and particularly about shooting the film in Austria - even going so far as to name her least favorite song from the movie.
Fans of the beloved movie can breathe well, as classic songs like "Do Re Mi," "Edelweiss" and "My Favorite Things" are safe, since her least favorite number is actually "I Have Confidence," a song that wasn't in the original musical but was actually written for the film.
The Daily Mail reports that Julie Andrews' "Sound of Music" interview also contained details about how the crew shot one of the most iconic scenes from the movie, its opening song that gives the movie it title. Apparently, the whole thing involved a helicopter with a very brave cameraman hanging on its side, where the door should be, filming her as she ran singing that the wills are alive with the sound of music!
According to People Magazine, some of the much sought-after Julie Andrews "Sound of Music" opinions come not exactly from an interview, but rather from the film's 50th anniversary box set, as 20th Century Fox releases a 5-disc DVD edition of the beloved musical.
