SXSW 2015 ‘Star Trek’: Austin Festival Introduced To Real-Life ‘Star Trek’ Tricorder

South by Southwest (SXSW) is one of the biggest festivals of the year, combining a great number of areas, from films to music and even technology, and the SXSW 2015 "Star Trek" conference has set things in motion once again, as a stunning new medical invention is uncovered.

First shown in the Texas city of Austin, the SXSW 2015 "Star Trek" invention is set to make some really great and positive changes for the field of medicine, as the device will be able to diagnose up to fifteen types of illnesses, just like the sci-fi machine it's based on.

According to Popular Science, the SXSW 2015 "Star Trek" Tricorder was presented at the festival, after being launched in 2012, with its full name based on the famous franchise.

The full name of the SXSW 2015 "Star Trek" device is Qualcomm Tricoder XPrize, and it comes from a competition started by the XPrize Foundation in which they challenged different companies and groups to develop a device similar to the one seen on the franchise, which can track a person's vital signs and health conditions without having to even leave their living rooms.

Virtual-Strategy reports that the gadget is one of the contest's finalists, and if it won, its company would be receiving $10 million for the medical prototype.

As International Business Times report, the SXSW 2015 "Star Trek" campaign was ultimately a success, as last Monday, a Canadian health care company by the name of Cloud DX ended up unveiling the real-life version of the Tricorder, a device that when the show first aired in 1966 was nothing short of a big dream.

The gadget is able to monitor up to five separate vital signs at all times, communicating its findings with the cloud for the patient to be examined.

The SXSW 2015 "Star Trek" device is currently available for pre-order.
