The White and Gold Dress or Black and Blue lace creation became instant hit in the internet while the British clothing retailer Roman Originals sold tons of the dress in minutes. The dress was already out-of-stocks in Roman Originals shops and stocks will be available again next week, according to Masahable.
The rage all started out on when the dress that was supposed to be worn by the mother of the bride took a snap of the controversial dress and sent it to her daughter. But the color of the dress confused the groom and the bride and so she posted it on Facebook to get opinions.
However, it started the craze among users and users spread the questions to others asking whether it was White and Gold Dress or Black and Blue.
However, the next thing that happened shocked the sender when 21-year-old Caitlin McNeill, a singer for the band wedding posted the photo of the dress to Tumbler page.
It became viral in the internet creating the hashtag #TheDress that made common people and even Hollywood artists to react whether it was White and Gold Dress or Black and Blue.
Washington Post reported that Beck and Justin Bieber go for Blue and Black, Anna Kendrick and Rob Lowe for white and gold while Ellen DeGeneres as usual had a comical remark, "From this day on, the world will be divided into two people. Blue & Black, or White & Gold."
As reported by TIME, McNeill and her band almost missed their chance to perform because of the craze that the phenomenal White and Gold Dress or Black and Blue controversy. As posted on their Facebook page Canach, McNeill posted that "it seems like we've caused quite the stir online! This is madness!"
McNeill revealed although the White and Gold Dress or Black and Blue created mayhem around the social media, she confirmed that the dress was actually Black and Blue dress as she saw it that day on the mother of the bride.
Ian Johnson, Roman Original's Creative Manager reported that 140 shops in UK had sold out the dress within an hour. He added that it even surpassed their Black Friday sales. Right now they are also thinking of creating another version of the dress in gold and white.
The viral dress is currently available in black and red, black and white and black in pink combinations too. It is sold at for £50 ($77).
When asked whether it was White and Gold Dress or Black and Blue, Johnson stated that they were leaving it open to interpretation, but they would like to think its Blue and Black.
