Shawn Marion Suffers Left Hip Injury: Prevents Him from Travelling to Detroit with the Team

The veteran forward was not able to make it for the last 5 games due to sore left hip. Shawn Marion of Cavaliers had to return to Cleveland for an MRI on his left hip injury and he was out for Tuesday game which was held in Detroit.

Marion had fallen out of the rotation of their head coach, David Blatt, in the past weeks. In 18 games played, the Cavaliers (35-22) won 16 times and the team did not experience much negative affected by his limited time of play, according to CantonRep. He has suffered through a worst season of his entire basketball career. He never failed to make average double-figure points in each season.

He should attend the tests that will be performed on Monday while his team mates prepare to face the Pistons on Tuesday. Despite his persistence, Marion's versatility and experience on defense has been proven valuable and he finally reached his playoff time.

As stated in Canton Rep. report, Marion disclosed last Sunday that his left hip has been bothering him to the extent that he has to have it checked out. Marion, 36 years old, has planned to retire at the end of the season. His playing time dwindled in the previous weeks, partly due to that injury, according to Def Pen Radio. Another cause for significant drop of his playing time is the arrival of Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith, and Timofey Mozgov.

It also added that the 4-time All Star averaged a career-low with 4.9 points per 20 minutes of a game. Even if he has not been a main contributor to the wins of the team, Marion is praised by David Blatt, Cavs coach, for his strong leadership. Marion has been in his 16th NBA season and it is no longer surprising to experience some nagging injuries.
