Ewan McGregor Movies: Who Will ‘Moulin Rouge’ Direct In ‘American Pastoral’?

Lately surrounded by mild controversy after getting the role of Jesus Christ in the 2015 film "Last Days in the Desert," a recount of the biblical period of forty days of fasting and praying; now, it seems like Ewan McGregor's movies credit will add one more job to his résumé: director!

Known for his roles in acclaimed movies such as Danny Boyle's "Trainspotting," Baz Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge!" and even playing Obi Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" prequels, Ewan McGregor's movies are widely recognized in the world, as the stage and film actor takes on the challenge of standing behind the camera for a change.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "American Pastoral" had been added as one of Ewan McGregor's movies some time ago, as he was cast to play the lead role of Seymour 'Swede' Levov in the film, an adaptation of a 1997 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Philip Roth about a Jewish American businessman and former athlete.

Variety reports that the latest addition to Ewan McGregor's movies will also co-star Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly and Dakota Fanning, playing Dawn and Merry Levov respectively.

Deadline reports that the decision to see the latest of Ewan McGregor's movies also become his directorial debut came due to an emergency, as the person who was supposed to direct, Phillip Noyce, stepped out of the project after it had been in development for years.

Originally, the movie, which was adapted to the big screen by John Romano (the man behind "The Lincoln Lawyer"), was originally set to star Connelly, her husband Paul Bettany and young actress Evan Rachel Wood; from the original casting choices, only Connelly remains after ten years of the film being in development.

Another director that had been attached to the project before was actor and director Fisher Stevens, who won an Oscar in 2010 for his documentary "The Cove."

In any case, it's an interesting time for Ewan McGregor's movies!
